Motorists Feel The Need For More Speed
26 Jul 10
Nearly 80% of drivers would like to see the motorway speed limit increased to 80mph.

A new online poll by car supermarket giant Motorpoint which last year sold 44,000 cars and commercial vehicles has revealed that 77% of people believe the current 70mph limit is outdated and needs to be brought more in-line with the Continent where the average speed is 130km/h (or 81 mph).

This comes as new figures from the Department of Transport show that more than half of all car drivers drove faster than 70mph last year on the motorway network. The current limit on motorways has been in force since 1965

Says David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint: “It is clear from our web survey at www.motorpoint.co.uk that we need to have a sensible debate as a country about speed limits particularly when so many people are routinely breaking the law when driving on the motorway.” For more information on Motorpoint visit www.motorpoint.co.uk
